Centro Histórico de Benalmádena
Located on the mountain range at an altitude of around 300 metres, you will find the old town centre of Benalmadena which still preserves its original layout of a typical Andalusian village, where the whiteness of its narrow streets takes you back to the ancient settlements that once occupied these lands. Originally, there were a castle and a fortress on this site to protect the houses of Benalmadena. The foundation of the town dates back to the 15th century after several previous settlements were razed to the ground by the troops of King Ferdinand II of Aragon during the middle of the area's conquest. This fact, along with the political and social instability of the period, favoured the creation of a fortified settlement of which only some remains have been preserved to this day in the area known as El Muro. There are hardly any vehicles in the town centre, which makes it a pleasant visit and allows visitors to enjoy its popular architecture, which is typical of Andalusian whitewashed villages.
